Being raised around animals, and showing the collies that my parents bred, I learned at an early age the time involved to take care of an animal. As I grew up, horses replaced the collies and after years of horses, my job as a supervisor with Northwest Airlines required alot of travel and made it impossible to keep my animals.. As I moved from state to state opening up reservation centers for the airline, I found that I missed the horses and when an opportunity came along to move to MN for a position that would not require traveling, I took it.
In 1996 I moved to Northern MN and decided to start breeding Arabians for dressage, however that summer, a very thin and injured walking horse mare came to my farm as a last chance to avoid euthanasia. After months of long days and nights with her, she recovered. That was the start of Safe Haven Walking Horses and the beginning of my work in rescuing troubled equine souls that others cast aside. "Unrideable, temperamental, shy, should be put down..." - terms applied to horses that now had a new place to call home. After a lengthy rehabilitation period, most then moved on to normal, happy lives with a family. Some, hurt too badly in some way, would find peace living out their days in the pastures of Safe Haven. During this time Safe Haven also became a working breeding and training facility, with horses being trained for shows, trails and field trials. Foals from Safe Haven sold to people all over the United Sates and Canada.
In 2005 I moved the herd to a new farm, a farm that would later that Summer be named Raindance Farms and in July of 2008 Safe Haven merged with Raindance Farms to become one of the largest full service Tennessee Walking Horse facilities in the Midwest.
